Environment
We strongly advocate for the concepts of sustainability and environmental responsibility, and we are committed to integrating them into all aspects of our business, which can be summarized in the following areas:
- Anticipating climate and environmental risks through our corporate governance system and business practices.
- Public projects and initiatives focused on directly working on nature preservation, as well as raising awareness about environmental responsibility in local communities.
- Increasing the sustainability of our organization's operations.
We are increasing the sustainability of our business
77% of locations use energy from renewable sources
As part of our strategic commitment to sustainable business, we have achieved that 77% of the Bank’s locations use electricity from renewable energy sources. This significant share has been achieved through contracts with public power utilities, as well as through our own energy production thanks to photovoltaic power plants installed on the rooftops of branches in Visoko and Zenica.
This step is not only a demonstration of our commitment to the environment, but also a concrete action that contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and our overall environmental footprint.
25% of our fleet consists of electric vehicles
We actively contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving energy efficiency, and raising awareness about environmental protection—first and foremost by leading through our own example.
One of the steps in this direction is the upgrade of our vehicle fleet, where 25% of the total fleet consists of electric vehicles, thereby reducing CO₂ emissions and contributing to more sustainable business operations.
Sparkasse electric vehicle charging stations
In addition to the electric cars in our fleet, the bank has installed nine charging stations for electric vehicles across Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Four of these chargers are located in the Sparkasse "Green" Garage at the Importanne Center in Sarajevo, while the others are available at our branches in Tuzla, Bihać, Mostar, Tešanj, and Banja Luka.
To support our clients in transitioning to cleaner and more sustainable transportation, all Sparkasse charging stations are available for bank clients to charge their electric vehicles.
Environmental Footprint
Our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint starts with small everyday actions, such as waste separation. We continuously reduce paper consumption by digitalizing work processes.
We apply sustainable marketing practices by minimizing printed materials.
Additionally, we actively promote eco-conscious practices and provide information on sustainable financial products and services.
Our goal is not only to reduce our own environmental footprint but also to inspire positive change within the community.
Nature conservation projects
Eco clean-up actions of water sites
Bosnia and Herzegovina is among the countries with the greatest drinking water potential in Europe, which is why we believe it is the responsibility of all of us to preserve and protect this natural resource.
That is why, every year on a continuous basis, together with the Bosna Diving Club, we organize eco clean-up actions of water sites, during which the Sparkasse team and our volunteers actively participate in cleaning at least two locations per year.
Our Director of the Security and Asset Management Division, Muamer Sarajlić, spoke about the path toward sustainability and the importance of ESG activities
For us, ESG principles are not just a strategic framework, but a responsibility to contribute to quality of life, a sustainable economy, and environmental protection through our everyday operations.
Through a systematic plan and concrete measures we are implementing, we are focused on reducing emissions, increasing energy efficiency, and delivering long-term benefits for the community and the environment.
